So I bought a girl’s (size 14/16) swimsuit cover up last year on clearance ($2) thinking it would be good for the pool.  I  burn easily.  But the long sleeves didn’t fit quite right. I put it in the goodwill bin and pulled it back out about 5 times in the last year.  I loved the bright happy fabric and wanted to make it work.  I finally decided I had nothing to lose and started by chopping off the sleeves.

After I hemmed the sleeves, the fit was much better, but it was plain and frankly looked like scrubs.  I took the leftover sleeves, chopped them up.  I sewed them together on the bias to reduce the bulk in the joins, and then tried to figure out how to put the sash I had made on the shirt to make it not so boring.

At first I thought I would make it an empire waist.
Still boring.
Then I tied it around my head.
Cute on me, but did nothing for the shirt.
Then I pulled it down.  I like this 🙂  Kind of retro and fun.  Not bad for two dollars to get a light and airy summer blouse!
I love that it’s long so I can wear it with jeggings or tuck it in to look pretty and a little more dressy with a skirt.  What do you think?  Should I have just made it into a pillow after all?
And just for you Shannon…
A close up of the earrings from the what I wore in May post.  I kind of love them.  I wear them all the time (see above!).  I made them with a bag of 50 cent clearance finding at JoAnns.  I already had the other parts cause I’m a craft supply hoarder.  🙂

Have you made anything fun lately?
