So, I’m better late than never as far as getting this project done and posted in time to be of use to anyone else.  Maybe next year. 😉  A girl can dream anyway.
Hubby says I’m on a pillow kick.  Probably so,  I go through phases.  Right now I like to decorate my bench and make it festive for each holiday.
So I found this pillow insert at Hobby Lobby for 67 cents each on clearance a while back.  They had several different sizes and I thought they would be fun to make some holiday or kid pillows with.  I printed up a star and cut it out.  And taped it with duct tape (cause I was too lazy to look for masking tape) to the fabric.  It was one of those times a Silhouette or Cricut could have been handy.
I took it out to the garage and hit it with the blue Wal-mart spray paint I bought years ago.  It didn’t seem dark enough so I hit it with a little black too.  Came out looking a little like denim.  Keep a very light hand when spraying fabric.  You do not want glops (technical term :))or drips.
Stuff and sew up the bottom.  Pair with a flag inspired pillow made from scraps you already had, and place on front entry bench to look festive.

Up close of the flag pillow, Some old, navy cotton with tiny stars and big red chevron.
Close-up of the spray painted star pillow.  I went back and stitched some red thread on the inside of the star because it looked too boring and I can’t leave well enough alone.  It only took a few minutes.
I don’t think hubby even noticed thy were there until I pointed them out.
Have you made anything festive for the fourth of July this year?
happy crafting,
Caroline
